Job Summary:

The purpose of this position is to provide support and maintain 200+ SMART media-enhanced technology classrooms on campus. This includes providing support to the Information Technology Service (ITS) Audio Visual (Classroom Support Team) department and working with other Information Technology Consultants (ITCs) on classroom support.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide audio-video support for the classrooms, event areas, and conference rooms/centers. Assists with the scheduling systems used on campus, such as Zoom and Microsoft (MS) Teams. Works with employees in the Multimedia & Immersive Technology (MIT) department as a backup support technician. 
  • Provide setup, teardown, and support for events scheduled during early morning, evening, and weekends throughout the year as needed.
  • Provide technical support and maintain over 200 Next Generation Smart Classrooms (NGSC) across the university.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the standard technology and systems in place, with the capability to support, operate, and operationalize this technology for Instructional use.
  • Install, integrate, and maintain media equipment in the classrooms including, but not limited to, data projection systems, multimedia players, computer hardware/software systems, cabling infrastructure, and audiovisual (AV) control systems. Troubleshoot technical issues related to the integration of the media-enhanced technologies and report issues to NGSC Classroom IT- group for further analysis if needed. Use monitoring software to help facilitate the operation of the projection and AV control systems.
  • Ability to assist less senior staff on standard operations and practices. This includes helping faculty integrate additional technology (cameras, digital recorders, etc.) into NGSC classroom technology.
  • Provide consultative support to ensure problem resolution, system access, and optimal performance for faculty, students, and staff.
  • Remote computer assistance is occasionally performed whereby the end-users will authorize the Technology Support Center Staff to log into their remote computer to perform diagnostics and help resolve issues.
  • Provide technical support for computer and information systems on campus by maintaining, configuring, and deploying computer systems for faculty and students, resolving problems when precedents exist.
  • Other classification related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Communications, or related technical field required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of the specialty work area demonstrated by an understanding and use of general principals and terminology.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the standard technology and systems in place with the capability of supporting and operating the technology.
  • Ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and refer to appropriate party for resolution.
  • Ability to solve problems where precedents exist, and acquire knowledge in related specialties. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in hardware and software technologies
  • Ability to pay attention to details and to meet deadlines and milestones
  • Patience and well-developed interpersonal relations skills
  • Previous professional experience working in a higher education environment is highly desired.
  • Great customer service skills
  • Ability to manage time and priorities
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office software (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

License/Certifications:

Valid CA drivers' license and insurance

 

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,899 per month

Classification Hiring Range: $4,094 – 7,881 per month

 

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:

Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Temporary. Temporary positions may end before or be extended beyond the appointment expiration date (12 months).

This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subjected to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

California State University, San Bernardino in not a sponsoring agency for staff or management positions (i.e. H1-B Visas).

Conditions of Employment

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.  CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Drivers License Check

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.  Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Mandated Reporter

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
